What happened?

On February 14th, 2019, AWS experienced an outage for Dataproc. This impacted the ability for customers to use Dataproc for online processing and storage of data. Simple Storage Services was also impacted by this outage. Customers were unable to create or manage volumes or files within Simple Storage Services.

Dataproc is AWS’s managed data storage service that offers a flexible, pay-as-you-go option for storing data in S3. In addition to supporting traditional object storage (using durable objects that can be stored in multiple locations) with throughput up to 10 GB/s, Dataproc also supports the latest version of Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Store), which provides up to 1 million IOPS and 2 million durability points.
